Aotearoa Bike Challenge 2025
As our friends at The Lightfoot Initiative say:
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. But what happens when going alone slows you down too?
Only with a safe, efficient and sustainable travel network can we ensure a positive future for our communities and businesses in the Whakatipu.”
We share their vision of the future where we are less reliant on car travel, have less congestion on our roads, and add less carbon to our atmosphere.
Which is why, this February, we’re partnering with Lightfoot on The Aotearoa Bike Challenge - to get more people on bikes and provide more data on cycling, to encourage better investment in cycle trails and infrastructure.
In 2024 Queenstown Lakes’ bikers (you!!) cycled 140,000 kms in just ONE month! Collectively we made 11,000 trips by bike, and more than 5000 of those were for transport. This equalled less congestion on our roads, and a reduction of 7.2t of CO₂ in our environment.
This year’s Challenge is shaping up to be even better with more Coffee & Kai pitstops to reward our cycling community, plus free bike repair clinics and many other pop-up surprises… Watch this space for competitions, rewards and a calendar of events that’ll keep you going throughout February.
So whether you’re a seasoned mountain biker or new to riding, get involved and help activate our community!
